Congratulations Carla Rush on your winning photo of our new lions! Sarabi (female) and Tau (male) came to the San Antonio Zoo from Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon. Royalty arrives at the San Antonio Zoo!

We are happy to announce the arrival of a pair of young king vultures. King vultures can be found from central Mexico to northern Argentina and are among the largest bird scavengers in the world. This pair is less than a year old and black in color. As they mature, their color will gradually change to white, with black tails and wing tips. Their head and neck will bald and change in color to yellow, orange and red. You can see them in the former Andean Condor exhibit.
 

Register soon for Wild Beginnings and Zoo Explorers!

Bring your 3-5 year old, and join us at our hour long Wild Beginnings and Zoo Explorers classes! It’s a great way for you and your tiny tot to explore the outdoors, see animals and do nature-based activities! Looking for a drop-off program where your child can learn nature-based concepts while having fun at the Zoo? Join our Zoo School, which runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Spring session starts January 7th and spots are already filling up!

Changes coming in 2014

As we enter the new year, please be aware of some changes happening at the San Antonio Zoo. Thanks to your suggestions, there will be some changes to the Membership Categories to better suit the needs of our Zoo families. Make sure to check our website Membership page to keep up with all the updates.

Beginning January 1, 2014, outside food or drink will no longer be allowed into the Zoo. Exceptions are: bottled water, small snack-sized items, and baby food and formula. Ice chests and coolers will no longer be allowed on Zoo grounds.
