San Antonio Zoo Welcomes Warthog Piglets!

The San Antonio Zoo welcomed a pair of adorable warthog piglets on June 14. This is the second birth for mom "Sekini." She keeps close guard over the infants while Dad, "Nikki," whose presence in their habitat might prove disruptive to their rearing, lives in the exhibit next door.

Warthogs are wild members of the pig family and are found in the grassland, the savanna, and the woodland in sub-Saharan Africa. The species is relatively widespread, abundant, and, despite being hunted as food, there are no major threats to their population. Adults weigh 100 to 300 pounds, with males generally outweighing females. The young are born after a 172-day gestation period, and an average litter size is three. Congratulations "Sekini" and "Nikki!"

96Elephants Campaign is Making Changes!

The 96Elephants campaign has seen some great achievements in recent months. Through their efforts, Antiques Roadshow on PBS has agreed to stop featuring carved ivory tusks on air and has also removed past ivory appraisals from the series archive.

In addition, New York, one of the largest hubs for illegal ivory in the world, passed a ban on ivory sales within state borders!
