Congratulations Lauren Garansuay on your winning photo of our juvenile tomistoma located in the Reptile House!
YOUR San Antonio Zoo is home to three tomistoma located in the Reptile House and in the Wetlands! Tomistoma are also called false gharials because of their likeness to gharials found in India and Nepal. Come by and see these rare crocodiles soon! Don't forget to submit your favorite Zoo photo to ecastillo@sazoo.org for a chance to have your photo showcased! One entry per person, per month, please.

Improved health care leads to increased life spans in Zoo animals

In a never-ending quest to keep up with the latest medical advances in animal healthcare, Zoos have noticed extended life spans within their animal collection. Animals that may only live a few years in the wild can live for decades in an accredited Zoo that is constantly improving animal healthcare. With an increased life span come age-related issues such as heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. As an AZA-accredited Zoo, our veterinarians monitor and even prevent some of these diseases simply by performing routine examinations. Your San Antonio Zoo is committed to state-of-the-art medical care for the animals in our collection.

Tony Parker joins Zoo Board!

The newest member of the San Antonio Zoological Society is San Antonio Spur, Tony Parker! Be sure and congratulate him on our Facebook page!
